I get it. When people hear “8 Limbs of Yoga,” they think, “Oh boy, this sounds intense.” But stay with me—it’s not as complicated as it sounds.
The 8 Limbs are basically yoga’s OG self-help guide. They’re how we live yoga off the mat and into real life (spoiler alert: it’s not just poses).
Here’s how I see them:
- Yamas & Niyamas: Be a good human. To others (yamas) and to yourself (niyamas). That’s it.
- Asana: The movement piece. Not to look cute in leggings, but to feel at home in your body.
- Pranayama: Breath is everything. It’s your anchor when life gets loud.
- Pratyahara: Tune out the noise. Get quiet. Turn inward.
- Dharana & Dhyana: Focus + meditation. In a PYC class, your drishti and breath train you for this.
- Samadhi: The bliss state. It might show up for you in savasana or a magical life moment where you feel deeply connected.
The point is: the 8 Limbs are tools for living a more connected, intentional life. You don’t need to sit on a mountain top to practice them. You’re already doing it every time you step onto your mat and breathe.
Simple. Accessible. Profound.
