The Five Pillars of Power Yoga: Foundations of Strength and Presence

By June 30, 2025No Comments

If you’ve ever taken a class with me, you’ve probably heard me talk about the Five Pillars of Power Yoga. These aren’t just buzzwords—they’re the foundation of every class, every pose, every breath.

Let me break them down for you:

  1. Breath (Ujjayi): This is your superpower. No breath, no yoga. Simple as that. It grounds you, centers you, and keeps you in the now.
  2. Drishti (Focus): Where your gaze goes, your energy flows. Setting your drishti helps you quiet the distractions (both external and internal) and stay present.
  3. Core (Bandhas): Your core is more than abs—it’s your powerhouse. Engaging your bandhas gives you strength, stability, and lifts your whole practice.
  4. Heat (Tapas): Yes, the room is hot. But the real heat comes from within. Tapas is the fire of discipline that transforms you—on and off the mat.
  5. Flow (Vinyasa): Life flows. Breath flows. Yoga flows. Connecting movement with breath creates a rhythm that’s meditative and powerful.

These pillars aren’t about making your practice harder—they’re about making it intentional. When you root into these five, you’re not just doing yoga. You’re embodying it.

And that, my friend, is where the magic happens.

See you on your mat,
Kinndli McCollum
